The Associated Press reports that an Idaho County sheriff's deputy faces a charge of sexual battery for allegedly having sex with an underage girl.

Daniel Funderberg, 31, has been placed on paid administrative leave by the Idaho County Sheriff's Department, pending his court appearance scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20. Funderberg is charged with having lewd and lascivious contact with the 16-year-old girl this past summer. Prosecutors said Funderberg admitted to having sex with the girl at his house.

KLEW-TV reports that Funderberg, 31, of Kamiah, told investigators that the girl's mother would not pursue charges as long as the relationship was over and he got counseling. Court documents also indicated that the underage girl contracted chlamydia as a result of the sexual encounters.
