Skiers and boarders, the bounties of the season are now coming fast and furious. Soldier Mountain Ski Area in Fairfield will open for the season on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

The announcement comes just a day after Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area announced its impending opening on Friday, Dec. 21.

This will be the first season for Soldier Mountain as a nonprofit ski hill. The resort was donated to the community earlier this year by its former owner, actor Bruce Willis. Skiers and boarders will be able to take advantage of several improvements made to the area's chairlifts and lodges, as well as a new magic carpet installed this season.

Soldier Mountain will be open through the holiday week, operating daily from Wednesday, Dec. 26-Sunday, Jan. 6, after which time the ski hill will return to its regular Thursday-Sunday schedule. Lifts run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and day lift tickets cost $35 for adults and $19 for children.
