Latah County First Responders Prepare for 'Zombie Invasion'

Posted By on Tue, Mar 5, 2013 at 9:22 AM

First responders in north-central Idaho will have their hands full on Saturday, April 27. That is, unless their hands are bitten off by zombies.

In a drill managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency—which will include all first responders in Latah County—police, fire and emergency management personnel will participate in a full-scale exercise that will simulate a zombie invasion.

While some national conspiracy theorists have deemed the drill "offensive and confusing," according to this morning's Moscow Daily News, Moscow Fire Chief Ed Button said "he has no intentions of changing the UFO-zombie theme."

David Lorry Vanderbeek, a candidate for governor of Nevada, contacted Latah County representative Sandy Collins, asking for more information on the drill.

“Do the leaders of our nation believe in UFOs and zombies really?” asked Vanderbeek. “If so, what is their proof? They must have proof in order to spend money on drills. If they have proof, they must provide it to the general public. What is the threat? How imminent is it?”

Button added that given the national climate, he wanted to steer clear of former themes like a mass school shooting.

The drill is expected to be centered on two scenarios: mass casualties and a rope rescue.

Approximately 100 first responders are expected to participate
