An ex-firefighter who admitted to setting the September 2012 Karney Fire that scorched more than 400 acres and threatened up to 100 homes, is scheduled to be sentenced today.
"We believe that the suspect was trying to get a relative's attention by starting the fire," Boise County Undersheriff Dale Rogers told Citydesk in September 2012. Rogers confirmed that Bartholomew's father was also a Boise County firefighter.
Nathaniel Bartholomew, 19, was a member of the Clear Creek volunteer fire department and lived in the Robie Creek area.
Fire officials said that the pricetag for battling the Karney blaze totaled more than $2 million.
Bartholomew faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for a felony count of third-degree arson.
