After neighbors raised some red flags over a proposal to turn Lewiston's Lucky Acres Arena into a storage facility for ammunition, the Lewiston Planning and Zoning Commission decided Wednesday to nix the idea.
This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that a number of property owners near the old arena on Lewiston's south side weren't too thrilled with Howell Machine's plans to convert the old horse arena into a storage and distribution facility for handgun and rifle ammo.
A spokesman for Howell told Lewiston P and Z commissioners that the ammunition storage operation would be similar to what Walmart or other retailers kept in stock. He also said that he would ultimately sell the building if he couldn't use the property as he had hoped.
After a 3-2 vote to turn down the proposal, the Lewiston City Council is expected to have the final say in the matter.
