A motorist shot and killed in a roadside incident June 12 near the Idaho-Montana state line was identified as 26-year-old Alexander Mandarino from Whitefish, Montana.
An Idaho State Police Trooper and a Shoshone County Sheriff's Deputy have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting death of a motorist June 12 just west of the Idaho-Montana state line.
The incident began when a Shoshone County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a welfare check on a car which had been parked in a turnout area along Interstate 90 at Lookout Pass. The Idaho State Trooper also arrived on the scene to assist.
The Associated Press reports that that the deputy said he discovered the man in the car had a gun and the two struggled over the weapon. That's when the trooper reportedly shot the driver.
The driver, only identified as a man in his 20s, was rushed to Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg where he was pronounced dead. The man's car had Montana license plates.
The lead agency of the investigation is the Kootenai County Sheriff's office.
