Prosecutors allege that the Minidoka County sheriff is on the wrong side of the law after being charged with misusing public funds—a felony.

The Idaho Attorney General's office was called in to investigate after Sheriff Kevin Halverson was accused of using a government credit card to buy gasoline for another female county employee. The complaint stated the alleged illegal purchases occurred between November 2012 and January 2013 and totaled less than $300.

Court documents allege that Halverson was having a personal relationship with Alicia Daniel, who works in his office's driver's license bureau. Prosecutors said text messages also suggest alleged drinking and driving by Halverson, according to the Twin Falls Times-News.

Court documents also reveal that Halverson was put on notice by Minidoka County officials in August 2012 for a prior incident where he was accused of using a county credit card to pay for fuel for a personal trip.

Halverson's court arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, July 18.
