Star-News: Extended Deadline Doesn't Net Any New McCall Police Chief Candidates

When officials with the city of McCall decided to extend the deadline for candidates interested in applying to become their city's new police chief, they were hoping to deepen their pool of applicants. Two weeks later, there weren't any more.

The McCall Star-News reports that the extended deadline came and went and there were still only six people who said they wanted the job. McCall officials had said earlier that the application process was a bit cumbersomeā€”the application requires an 18-page personal history statement in addition to a 15-page application. That's not including any cover letter or attached resume.

The position has been empty since the February dismissal of former McCall Police Chief Jerry Summers, who has hit the city with a wrongful termination suit.

The Star-News reports that an internal task force is screening the applicants and finalists will be invited to McCall to meet community members and city staffers.

City officials had indicated that they wanted to fill the position by November.
