Walton: 'Wayne Hoffman Doesn't Understand Boise'

One day after Idaho Freedom Foundation director Wayne Hoffman fired off a letter to City of Boise officials, asking them to shelve their planned $33.8 million bond initiative, Idaho Civic Engagement Project Director Emily Walton sent a letter of her own to City Hall, saying that they should disregard Hoffman's missive.

"Wayne Hoffman doesn't understand Boise," she wrote.

Hoffman had criticized the bond proposal, which contains public safety items that he said fell under the category of "wants," not "needs."

But Walton countered that the bond proposal contains both wants and needs, "Which is great, because Boiseans have consistently shown that they understand the value of securing open spaces and facilitating park improvements for the city."

"Enjoying our life in Boise isn't just something we 'want.' Instead, it is something we 'need' and open space and parks are an important part of that enjoyment."

UPDATE:

In response, Hoffman said it was "important to note that Idaho Freedom Foundation is a Boise-based organization."

"[IFF] conducts business here, employs people here, spends money here," wrote Hoffman. "Any tax increase in Boise will have an impact on our organization just as it does other organizations, individuals and businesses in the city."
