Rand Paul 'Committed' to 2014 Idaho GOP Convention Appearance

Idaho Republicans are already gearing up for their state convention, set for June 2014 in Moscow. And, according to an internal Idaho GOP email, no less than Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul will be on hand to whip up the faithful.

"We are ... encouraged by the commitment of Sen. Rand Paul who will be our special guest. Additionally, we look forward to the participation of all our Idaho Republican elected officials," stated IDGOP Chairman Barry Peterson in the email.

North Idaho is definitely Paul country. Rand Paul's father, Rep. Ron Paul, campaigned through Idaho in the 2012 presidential primary, drawing large crowds at rallies in the especially rural northern counties of the state. He won pluralities in Bonner, Boundary, Latah, Nez Perce and Idaho counties. With the addition of Camas County, the elder Paul pulled 18 percent of the primary vote, or just more than 8,000 votes statewide. His only competition north of Adams County was Pennsylvania Rep. Rick Santorum.

Paul the Younger has his supporters in Idaho, too, including Facebook efforts devoted to putting his name on the presidential ballot in 2016.
