Tree Ceremonies Will Brighten Black Friday

The day after Thanksgiving will be anything but black in downtown Boise, with annual the Tree Lighting Celebration ushering in the holiday season and free on-street parking on Friday, Nov. 29.

Festivities for the Tree Lighting start at 5 p.m. when local media personalities and the Celebration Band take the stage. After an hour of carols and a few words from Boise Mayor Dave Bieter, the countdown for the tree lighting will start at 6:25 p.m.

As part of the celebration, individuals are encouraged to take a tag from the Holiday Giving Tree and help the support the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA).

As way to start the holiday season, the City of Boise is turning off the meters for free on-street parking all-day Nov. 29. Loading zones and disabled parking spaces will still be enforced and regular rates still apply in parking garages and private lots.

There will be free parking in select areas of downtown Boise from Thanksgiving to New Years, courtesy of the Downtown Public Parking System. All public parking garages will be free parking on Thursday evening Dec. 5, 12 and 19 after 5 p.m.

In addition, Downtown Public parking is providing a free parking day Saturday Dec. 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All the downtown public parking garages and many of the private lots will be free. This will be the perfect day to conduct your last minute holiday shopping. For a full list of locations offering free parking visit online.
