A former Eastern Idaho high-school girls' basketball coach who was fired over a Facebook flap, is back on a basketball court—as a referee.
In October, BW first told you about Laraine Cook being fired from her job as a Pocatello High School basketball coach, while her fiance, the Pocatello High School football coach, got off with a slap on the wrist.
The flap stemmed from a social media photograph that showed the boyfriend touching the chest of Cook.
Cook hired a lawyer and formally appealed through the school district's bargaining grievance process.
And in late December, a grievance panel concluded that Cook's firing should be rescinded, she should be reinstated as a substitute teacher immediately, and she should be rehired as the basketball coach in 2014.
And now, today's Idaho State Journal is reporting that while Cook awaits her reinstatement, she's gone back to what she did prior to coaching.
"I had to find something to do with my winter hobby,” Cook told the State Journal. “I have gone back to officiating. I do a lot of (junior varsity) and freshman basketball games. It keeps me in the game, even if it’s a different angle.”
Meanwhile the Pocatello School District Board of Trustees are scheduled to next meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
