New Mayors for McCall, Sandpoint

Two Idaho communities have sworn in new mayors to replace longtime public servants.

The McCall City Council voted 3-2, along gender lines, to select Jackie Aymon as the Valley County city's first female mayor. The 59-year-old Aymon is the ceremonial head of the city, since McCall is one of Idaho's few municipalities to have a city manager form of government. Aymon was appointed to the McCall Council in 2010 and was elected to a full four-year term in 2011. She replaced outgoing Mayor Don Bailey. Bailey served on McCall's Planning and Zoning Commission from 2000-2006 and, beginning in 2006, was elected to the City Council four times. The council, in turn, elected him mayor twice.

The McCall Star-News reports that Aymon voted for herself and was joined by council members Marcia Witte and Laura Scott. Nic Swanson voted for himself and garnered another vote from the second male on the council, Bob Giles.

Aymon is a Boise native and has been a McCall resident since 2005.

Meanwhile, Carrie Logan has been sworn in to be the new Mayor of Sandpoint, replacing Marsha Ogilvie, who passed away Jan. 9 after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.

Logan was first elected to the Sandpoint City Council in 2008 and was re-elected to her seat in 2011. She was the unanimous choice of her fellow council members to fill out the remainder of Ogilvie's term—approximately two years.
