Mountain Express: One Month After Mount Baldy Fire, Cell Problems Persist

A Feb. 1 fire atop Sun Valley's Bald Mountain did more than damage the top station of a chair lift; it has also triggered a significant cell phone coverage issue north of Warm Springs.

This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that several homeowners in the area continue to report that have no cell phone service, following the fire that also destroyed a communication facility that included several cell phone antennas. In particular, Verizon and Spring customers who live north of Warm Springs have been most affected.

Meanwhile, a Verizon spokeswoman said the company was still looking for "new alternatives to solve the problem."

"We're trying to figure out a plan for the interim until we can have a permanent tower in place," Verizon Public Relations Consultant Manager Meagan Dorsch told the Mountain Express. "Our network team is looking at several different options. Unfortunately, there is no timetable for a solution."
