Avalanche Alley To Close Friday Night

Posted By on Fri, Mar 28, 2014 at 10:25 AM

Facing a flood watch for the Boise and west-central mountains in effect through the afternoon hours of Saturday, March 29, officials have decided to close down the 12-mile stretch of Idaho Highway 21 between Grandjean Junction and Banner Summit, better known as 'Avalanche Alley." The stretch will close down at 7 p.m. this evening and will remain closed until further notice.

Avalanche Alley is home to about 60 avalanche chutes and 90 percent of Idaho's highway avalanches.

The Idaho Transportation Department posts the latest highway and weather conditions at 5-1-1 and online at 611.Idaho.gov.
