Idaho Light Foot Militia Surfaces in Magic Valley

In June 2013, an expert on domestic terrorism and extremism told Boise Weekly that so-called "light foot militias" should not be taken lightly, in the wake of the creation of a new light foot militia in Ada County.

"They may be apolitical as far as accepting people into their group, but at the heart of a militia usually lies a view that government is corrupt and the Constitution is eroded," said Daryl Johnson of Washington, D.C.-based DT Analytics, which consults and trains law enforcement agencies on domestic terrorism and extremism. "I have yet to see a militia group that doesn't subscribe to a conspiracy point of view."

And now, this morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that the Idaho Light Foot Militia sent out an email blast to potential Twin Falls members this week.

According to the Times-News, the militia is "most active in North Idaho," with 11 active units throughout the state and 13 "interested" units.

Twin Falls County Sheriff Tom Carter told the Times-News that he had no problem with anyone who wanted to uphold the Constitution, just as long as they stay within the confines of the law.
