Otter in Colorado for Governor's Conference to Mull Water, Emissions and Sage-Grouse

Posted By on Mon, Jun 9, 2014 at 9:10 AM

Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter will be visiting the idyllic setting of the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo., this week—the scene for the annual Western Governors Association meeting.

Otter will be comparing notes with governors from Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.

The proposed Endangered Species Act protection of the greater sage-grouse is expected to be a hot top in this week's session, along with water scarcity and oil and gas development.

U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewell is set to give a keynote speech later today on drought, wildfires and other issues. Later this week, Otter and his fellow governors will hear from Environmental Protection Agency head Gina McCarthy. McCarthy is expected to get friction from some governors over her announcement last week that launches an aggressive campaign to curb emissions from power plants.
