It was 10:51 p.m. on July 12, when a Boise Police patrol officer noticed a signal violation on North 12th and West Grove streets. He performed a traffic stop. According to the Boise Police Department, as the officer got out of his car to talk to the driver, a Chevy Blazer almost hit the officer. The Blazer accelerated, spinning tires, and ran the stop sign at 12th and Grove, and almost hit a man walking in the crosswalk.

The officer got back in his car and pulled the Blazer over a block away. While dealing with that, the first driver pulled into a nearby parking lot, yelled obscenities at the officer, and drove away—ignoring the officer's commands to pull over and almost hitting another car. Then the suspect ran a red light at 13th and Front streets.

Dealing with two suspects, the officer called for backup. Other policemen caught up with the first driver on the outbound Connector near River Street. A Garden City Police K-9 sniffed out a methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Officers also found a large machete inside the car. Joshua Balderas, 21, of Boise, was arrested for a controlled substance violation, carrying a concealed weapon without a license, reckless driving, resisting and obstructing officers, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia—one felony and five misdemeanors.

The suspect driving the Blazer—Victor D. Balderas, 18—was also arrested for reckless driving, a misdemeanor.

Also on Saturday, July 12, officers responded to a report of possible road rage. The victim said two cars tailgated the victim's vehicle before pulling in front and boxing the victim's car in. The victim pulled into a business parking lot to speak with the responding officer, and was found to be known and targeted by the two male drivers, because of an ongoing dispute.

Other officers found and stopped the vehicles near South Capitol Boulevard and West Myrtle Street. During the investigation, officers noticed a plastic bag next to the suspect in the patrol car.  It contained a black gummy substance that tested positive for heroin. 1.7 grams of it. Officers also found a scale and other items indicating delivery.

Blake R. Davis, 23, of Boise, was arrested for the delivery of a controlled substance (a felony) and cited for reckless driving. The second male driver involved was also cited for reckless driving and let go.
