Car traffic on the newly reopened Eighth Street is flowing smoothly after the direction of the popular downtown thoroughfare switched this morning.

The street, now a northbound one-way for car traffic, switched over the weekend of Aug. 23, with the last details of the project being completed in the early morning hours of Aug. 26.

ORIGINAL POST:

The Eighth Street direction reversal is in its final phases, and is on track for completion along the lines of the project's revised (read: accelerated) completion date.

Freshly painted double-yellow traffic lines buffer its new bright green bike lane, and over the weekend, electrical crews began switching traffic signals to serve northbound car traffic. The final touches to Eighth Street are expected in the early morning hours of Aug. 26.

July 30, Boise Weekly alerted readers to the direction change being made by the Capital City Development Corporation, which owns Eighth Street. Just a week later, CCDC announced that progress on the change, which was designed to rationalize the street's use downtown, was ahead of schedule

CCDC officials promise that traffic flaggers will be out near Eighth Street early Tuesday morning to assist drivers with the change.
