Lewis Leaves Race

And then there were two.

Northern Idaho businessman Rand Lewis formally withdrew from the three-way race for the Democratic nomination for Idaho's First District Congressional seat yesterday. In the process, he endorsed his one-time opponent, Larry Grant.

Lewis, who had raised little money during the first quarter of fundraising, stated the need for Democratic Party unity as his reason for leaving the race.

"It is best that we consolidate our efforts to win this seat. I believe that we are in a very strong position to make a change in our Congressional representation and, by working together, we can ensure a Democratic Larry Grant win in November,"

Lewis said in a written statement. On why he chose to endorse Grant rather than frontrunner Walt Minnick, Lewis stated that Grant's positions on national security, the military, health care and the economy fall in line with his own.

"I like Larry, his sense of values, his honesty and his integrity. I’ll do what I can to help him both before the election and when he goes to Washington,” Lewis said.
