In a few hours, the Boise Fire Department Pipes and Drums Band and the City of Boise Police Pipes and Drums band will serenade guests at five local bars. The bands will collect donations to help fly home Scott Doyle, a Maryland firefighter who was critically injured jumping into the Snake River Canyon.
Boise Fire Capt. Paul Roberts noted that there are very few professions that will come together to help one another in such a way. They truly are a brotherhood.
“This is what we do,” Roberts said, adding that events like this to raise money for a fellow firefighter, even from another state, are not uncommon.
Scott was critically injured May 10th while base-jumping into the Snake River Canyon in Jerome County. Scott experienced what is called a “line twist” during his jump, causing him to hit the canyon wall twice during his 280 foot descent.
The medical transport from Boise to Montgomery County, Maryland is estimated to cost $24,000 and is not an expense that his insurance will cover.
Scott’s family has said that he suffered a serious head injury and is listed in critical condition at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. He is in a coma, but is considered stable.
Scott, an 18-year veteran of the Maryland Fire & Rescue Service, is said to be an avid skydiver in conjunction with his base-jumping.
The pipes and drums band came up with the plan to help Scott and muster up everyone they could to lend a hand.
Performances will kick off tonight at 8:00 pm tonight at Bardenay. The bands will travel to The Reef to play at 8:30 pm. The show will continue at Old Chicago at 8:45 pm before moving on to Bitter Creek Ale House at 9:15 pm and lastly Bad Irish at 9:45 pm.

To the extended family in Boise, THANK YOU!!! I know the fire service is a brotherhood, I know we step up to protect and help our own, and I know we would do the same for one of yours......but this truly reaches to new levels of class and honor that I thought I could only dream of.

To all those who have gone out of their way to help Scott and his family, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is absolutely humbling to see such a brotherhood in action. Anybody, anywhere, would be so lucky to be apart of what you and Scott are.

Pipes and Drums did a pub crawl last night to benefit Firefighter Doyle. $2769.00 was raised from the combined efforts of the Boise Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Meridian Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Eagle Firefighters, City of Trees Pipes and Drums, and The Boise Highlanders. We started out with the intention of playing at 5 bars downtown, and the hope of raising $500.00. By the end of the night, we played at 12 downtown bars, and exceeded all expectations.

Boise, our deepest thanks from the Fire Brigade Pipes and Drums for helping to raise funds to bring Scott home. Not only is he a brother to us in the fire service, he is a brother to us here as a piper. Scott was instrumental in helping the MCFF Pipes and Drums started. They are a great bunch people who have have the honor and pleasure of performing with, whether it's at a LODD funeral or at the annual MD State Fireman's Convention in Ocean City. Scott will sorely be missed next month at the convention and all of our prayers are with him so that he may join us again soon.
If any of you guys are in Baltimore for the Fire Expo, please try to hook up with us, we owe you a big one.
