It's time to get centered. Boise's ecstatic Kirtan community is hosting an event at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at the Center for Spiritual Living, 600 N. Curtis Road, offering the public the chance to get acquainted with the ancient practice.

Dress in comfortable, loose fitting clothing, grab a pillow for a little extra padding, and grab a seat on the floor. The interactive spiritual practice of Kirtan celebrates the joy of life, service, dance and song, and encourages everyone to take an inner journey by moving, breathing deeply and chanting along to the sounds of spellbinding music.

The evening event will bring together the local kirtan community with some special guest leaders and musicians. Everyone is welcome to participate in the meditative powers of call-and-response chanting led by Manjari dasi, vocals and harmonium, and Ragalekha devi, vocals, tablas and mrdanga (types of drums from India).

“Many people in town would love this experience,” said Genene Gregor, a member of the local Kirtan community. “The cool thing about the Ecstatic Kirtan event is that the musicians have traditional classical training in Indian Bhajan. The sound will be beautiful. “

Advance tickets are available for $10 at the Boise Co-op.

The active kirtan community in Boise called Enchanted meets once a month. For more information, e-mail genene@cableone.net, call 208-629-5594, or visit spiritual-living.org.
