If the only dose of Bollywood you’ve gotten of late has come in the form of the random (ironic?) credits of Slumdog Millionaire, don’t go into withdrawal just yet. The Egyptian Theatre is inviting movie-goers to “get your Bollywood fix” at a showing of the new film Love Aaj Kal on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 3 p.m.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, who also directed the 2007 hit Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal blends two love stories, one set in the past in India and one set in modern day London. When the modern lovers, played by the jaw-droppingly beautiful Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan, decide to break up to focus on their careers, a coffeeshop owner (Rishi Kapoor) tries to convince the two not to split by recounting his own love story.
Judging by the trailer, Love Aaj Kal looks like an eye-catching combo of cheesily choreographed dances and heartfelt flashbacks—all the trappings of a stellar Bollywood flick.
You can get discounted tickets for $9 at India Foods, located at 602 N. Orchard Street, or if you buy them at the door at the Egyptian, they’ll set you back $12. Event organizers stress that all of the movie's proceeds will go to charitable causes.
