Today's video distraction: Nausea

Posted by Amy Atkins on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 1:00 PM

The Idaho International Film Festival kicks off this weekend in downtown Boise theaters and venues. A couple of weeks ago, we told you about the festival, which features more than 50 films, and tomorrow we'll have synopses of some of them—including a few by Idaho filmmakers—on the BW Web site.

At this writing, I just finished watching a screener for the 86-and-a-half minute Nausea (inspired by Sartre's book of the same name) by Idaho filmmakers Wes Malvini and Dustin Jones and their company Evil Wine Films. It's a film with drugs, booze and bodily functions; little dialog; a cinematographic filter that over-brightens colors, turning them into acid-trip shades; a soundtrack that is always interesting and often misleading; and an ending that makes you say "WTF?" And it's absolutely worth watching.

Nausea screens at 9:15 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre on Friday, Sept. 25. For a full program of films, visit
