Patty Miller Recieves Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities Award

Posted By on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 5:59 PM

At 8 p.m. tonight Patty Miller, executive director of the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, will be presented with the Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities award by the Idaho Humanities Council. Handed out annually since 1986, this award recognizes “either a person or an organization … that fosters greater understanding or appreciation of the humanities.”

A founding board member of the Basque Museum in 1985, Miller has been crucial to the development of the Basque block and an enthusiastic proponent of Basque culture—dancing with the Oinkari Basque Dancers, singing with the Biotzetik Basque Choir and performing with the Gaupasa Basque Folk Band.

Past recipients of the Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities award include former Governor Robert E. Smylie, state historian Merle Wells and Idaho poet William Studebaker. If you’d like to celebrate with Miller tonight, head over to the Boise Basque Museum at 8 p.m. for a dessert reception and award presentation ceremony.
