Food for Mail

Last night, I reached into my mailbox and found an empty plastic bag laying on top of my stack of bills. My surge of irritation that someone had jammed some garbage in there quickly subsided when I realized that the bag was not only neatly folded, but it was printed with instructions.

Turns out mail carriers across the valley will be picking up nonperishable food donations for the Idaho Food Bank on Saturday, May 8. The food drive is part of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger event.

Last year, local mail carriers picked up more than 218,000 pounds of food.

Most postal customers received the official plastic bags over the last several days. Now, all you have to do is put some non-perishable food items in said bag and leave it in your mailbox by 7 a.m. on Saturday.
