BW's Ronnie James Dio Memorial Haikus

Posted By on Wed, May 19, 2010 at 3:59 PM

The music loving world is mourning the loss of one of the greats. The man who not only brought themes of magic, poetry and wicked high notes to rock, but who actually created the pointer and pinky finger devil horns rock salute. Post-Ozzy vocalist for Black Sabbath and frontman for Dio and Heaven and Hell, the one, the only, Ronnie James Dio, succumbed to stomach cancer on Sunday.

As a tribute, BW offered a Dio memorial haiku, and reached out to its readers to submit their own for Cobweb. The results, which can be seen below, all demonstrated reverence paired with a strong grasp on Dio's lyrics and poetic themes. We can all be sure he's looking up proudly.

High notes of the gods
Like a rainbow in the dark
You were rock and roll

Vic Brisbin
Holy Diver, you were down
Too long in the midnight sea oh
What's that supposed to mean?

Sarah Carrico
Hi-dee bye-Dio
Your flowing locks, odes of rock
A sweeter dark prince

Rico Hood
The Torch has been passed
Oh Hail evil priest of rock
Death whispers goodbye

Will Shapiro
Heavy metal god
Off to hell on demon wings
Ronnie James Dio

Madeline Enos
Ay dio mio.
Million devil's horns salute
as you pass the torch

Annie Berical
Holy Diver: gone
Jump, jump on the tiger, our...
Rainbow in the dark

Disciples of Dio
Weep with heavy hearts, but why?
We're the last in line
