Boise Weekly just had our first tornado party—which basically involved a bunch of staffers running outside, looking up at the swirling funnel making its way over downtown Boise, and running back inside to try and decide what to do.

The National Weather Service issued a rare tornado warning at 3:03 p.m. for central Ada, west central Elmore and southern Boise counties. Trained weather spotters first saw the funnel cloud forming as it moved southeast from the Hidden Springs area, across Garden City and downtown Boise and on toward Lucky Peak.

The funnel was spotted by numerous people, including one who provided this photo. BW even did a little video storm chasing.

The warning was in effect until 3:45 p.m. The Weather service also warned of a strong storm along with the tornado, and the storm has led to a flood warning in effect for northern Elmore and Gem counties, as well as Adams, northern Boise and Valley counties.

Basically, if you're in a low-lying area, or in a ravine, be aware of rising water levels.
