Scenes From a Scene #011: The Random Canyon Growlers

For all the sonic marvels that the electrification of music has brought, there's still something to be said for the raw energy that can come from acoustic instruments. Though acoustic is primarily associated with mellowness, that doesn't have to be the case. Playing acoustic, free of a stage and mountains of gear, can be just as effective in breaking down that line between performer and audience that punk rock strives for. And once that wall is broken down, anything is possible. The Random Canyon Growlers are proof of it. They play with the energy and pace of hardcore, but with sweet pop harmonies and no amps. Even if bluegrass ain't your thing, it's nearly impossible not to get drawn into their performance. Especially if it's just on a street corner rather than behind the trappings of amplification and a $10 cover.
