TIFF: Never is a Pretty Strong Word. So is This Movie.

I know a terrible secret. But you’d hate it if I spilled any of the details of Never Let Me Go.

If you read the 2005 bestseller, you know what I’m talking about (or not talking about it). It’s the source material of a new film starring Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightly. It also stars newcomer Andrew Garfield (who has been cast in the leading role of the new Spiderman movie). They play three students at a mysterious boarding school.

The subject matter is a definite conversation-starter ... and stopper. I spotted more than a few emotional debates erupting when the movie ended.

Mulligan is as talented as she is lovely. And the themes of mortality and morality will haunt you. If you like first-rate grownup entertainment, this one’s worth waiting for.
