Did Vanilla Ice Cause the Housing Bubble?

Posted By on Wed, Oct 20, 2010 at 11:44 AM

Vanilla Ice (aka Robert VanWinkle), wearer of jams, star of the silver screen and the man responsible for the best fight music of all time, apparently likes to fix up and flip houses in his spare time. Who knew?

And with the considerable resources available to an artist who sold 40 million albums, he's had a lot of irons in the fire. Enough to bear responsibility for the housing bubble on top of popularizing "the fade?" Probably not. But enough that he's now starring in a 10-episode run of a show called The Vanilla Ice Project, on the DIY Network, in which he'll be fixing up a 7,000 square-foot mansion to flip.

Which brings to light a second potential headline question: Can reality TV get any further from reality?

The show will air Thursdays.
