Need Something to do Monday?

Posted By on Mon, Oct 25, 2010 at 10:09 AM

No bones about it, the weather is getting decidedly crappier. And while that's fine and dandy by this native Oregonian's measure, it still means a shift in extracurricular activities. Kayaking is probably out for the season. In, is... "indoor stuff."

What does that mean, you might ask? It sounds suspiciously vague, like when my mom used the rain as an excuse to trick me into cleaning my room when I was five. Is there room cleaning involved?

Dunno. If you like a clean room, sure, go wild. Hog wild in fact. But it's by no means required. See back in "the olden days," people used to get by just dandy without kayaks or clean rooms. They just told stories. And if it was good enough for our antecedents, then guldurnit it oughta be good enough for us too.

Tonight, you have two good storytelling options to help you weather the weather.

The monthly Story Story Night at The Linen Building will be offering up live, unscripted stories on the theme of Spooked: Stories of the Uncanny. Featured storytellers include Nick Garcia, Leslie Kelly Hall and Arlen Donald, with music by Dan Costello. That gets going at 7 p.m. and costs $5.

And/Or—depending on how industrious you're feeling this evening...

You can hit up Rediscovered Bookshop at 6 p.m., where the Eclectic Readers, will be discussing Hanged: A History of Idaho's Executions.
