Every so often, a classic food gets a genius repackaging makeover somehow that makes it new again. In the '90s, it was Dippin’ Dots—mini space-age spheres of ice cream—and now there are cake balls.
Cake balls blend the decadence of a truffle, with the moist fluff of cake and the portability of a Popsicle. It’s quite possibly the raddest thing to come on a stick since this.
Local Boise company Cake Ballers will be serving up an assortment of their handmade cake balls tonight at the inaugural (rather blandly named) Taste of Boise, a fundraiser for Boise State’s Public Relations Student Society of America. For $1 per taste, you can sample grub from Superb Sushi, Cake Ballers, Simply Cupcakes, Harvey's Coffee Roasting Company, Boise Co-Op, Whatever Works Catering, Flying M Coffeehouse, Raw Sushi and Willowcreek Grill.
The event takes place at 1020 Main St. from 6-9 p.m. with music by Steven Tony, vocalist and guitarist for Mousy Brown.
