It's a frequent and fair criticism of those in the alt-weekly writing set that we lean a bit toward the esoteric musically, often forsaking the simple booty-shaking groove of the people for the bin buzzing guardians of the avant.
Those in the booty camp, however, might want to swing by Tom Grainey's this weekend, where Corvallis, Ore.-based jamsters Audiophilia will be getting funky on Friday and Saturday night.
The band is fronted by impressive guitar work of Curtis Monette, and his custom Requiem Stings axe. Monette's complex prog-influenced leads and solos over Audiophilia's electronic, funk-rock and reggae grooves make for a layered and groovy sound on par with marquis bands in the jam genre, and when he really cuts loose, the galloping glory of Europe-style '80s glam metal.
Audiophilia will be at Tom Grainey's tonight and Saturday, June 18. Both shows start at 9:30 p.m. and cost $3.
