In what must have felt like a long time in coming, R. Grey Gallery owner, artist and master crafstman Robert Kaylor was acknowledged with one of the most prestigious awards given out in his industry.

Kaylor, 56, has been creating stunning jewelry for years. As a matter of fact, R. Grey Gallery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, an accomplishment worth noting (and joining in on—a party is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 21 and is open to the public).

In July, the Jewelers of America awarded him the coveted Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award for his REALSTEEL collection at the annual JA New York show.

For this award, the judges aren't looking for a designer new to the jewelry scene but rather an artist whose work is exceptionally innovative. When he premiered the line in 2009, we told our readers there was something special about the way Kaylor combines gold, platinum, silver and precious gems with antique furniture nails, railroad date nails and keys. We weren't wrong.
