Robots Are Coming For Your Books

Posted By on Tue, Aug 16, 2011 at 4:30 PM

Ever wonder what The Matrix would have looked like if it were set in a nice apartment with hardwood floors? Probably a bit like Swarmanoid, The Movie.

It's a short demo film of a Swarmanoid, a series of robots that work like a hive to accomplish a task. The task at hand is to retrieve a book, and despite sounding like it ain't no thang, it's pretty impressive to watch.

From the project's description:

The main scientific objective of this research project is the design, implementation and control of a novel distributed robotic system. The system will be made up of heterogeneous, dynamically connected, small autonomous robots.

The swarmanoid process is one that could become the future of mining, space exploration, hazardous material disposal and more.
