Buckner Back in New England

Posted By on Sat, Aug 20, 2011 at 1:40 PM

Boise's Bill Buckner was featured this morning on NPR's Weekend Edition.

Though he had one of the best records in baseball, playing for the Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox through the 1970s and 1980s, he is mostly known for a crucial fielding error during Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, becoming a scapegoat for Red Sox fans. He was heckled, booed and even received death threats. He eventually retired to Idaho.

But this summer, Buckner is back in New England, serving as manager of the Brockton Rox, a semi-pro baseball team. NPR's Anthony Brooks said Buckner is a minor celebrity in Brockton, about 30 smiles south of Boston.
