Backpacking Utopia

Posted By on Mon, Aug 22, 2011 at 11:32 AM

I cannot in good conscience reveal the exact spot that I backpacked into last Saturday, for fear that you will go there. It isn't a secret spot, by any means, and is, in fact, a very popular and easy-to-access place that I have been frequenting since I was a Boy Scout in the '90s—which is precisely why I would prefer it if fewer people knew about this little slice of heaven.

I can tell you that the trailhead is within a two-hour drive of Boise and that the hike in is fairly short. Beyond that, you either recognize the evening view from the pictures below or you're s#^! outta luck until such time that you stumble upon this little gem—just one of many in Boise's back yard.

I'll give you one more hint: There are several beautiful mountain lakes within a stone's throw...
