What do fish and telescopes have in common? Sorry, there isn't a punch line. They honestly don't have any obvious connection (unless fish exist on some distant planet that can be seen with a mega-powerful telescope). But both are an integral part of today's adventures.
The eighth annual Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo kicks off today at Expo Idaho. From noon-9 p.m., you can survey the plethora of booths filled with vendors, experts and all sorts of fishy things. You don't have to be a pro—the expo is open to all ages and abilities. Can't go today? No worries, the expo continues Saturday, Jan. 14, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Check out the event's Facebook page and website for more info.
Fly fishing not your thing? Head over to the Discovery Center of Idaho and try your hand at astronomy. The Boise Astronomical Society is hosting a free info session at 7 p.m. If you recently purchased a new telescope or got one as a holiday gift, these astro-experts will help you figure out how to use it, and tell you all about their club so you can be high-tech star gazing with friends in no time. Visit the society's website for more info.
