A unique band of musicians will jazz up the Boise music scene on Sunday, Jan. 22, and Monday, Jan. 23. The Boise Jazz Society is bringing back contemporary jazz artist Harry Allen, with accomplished Italian stride pianist Rossano Sportiello, bassist Joel Forbes and drummer Chuck Riggs.
The Harry Allen Quartet has built a reputation for maintaining a traditional style and infusing it with a modern flare.
Harry Allen himself has played and recorded alongside many well-established artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Scott Hamilton, James Taylor and Sheryl Crow, to name a few.
Sharing the stage with Allen is Sportiello, who began studying piano at age 9, and by 16, was playing the professional jazz scene in Milan, Italy. Veteran acoustic bassist Forbes has been a prominent face in the New York jazz scene for 25 years. And completing the group, Riggs is much-sought-after by many big names in the swing world.
The Harry Allen Quartet will perform at the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy on Sunday, Jan. 22, and Monday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $39, or $19 for students. For more info, visit boisejazzsociety.org.
