There is a moment in a song when all bets are off. When stompboxes are stomped, solos wail and drummers are unleashed. Boise band Le Fleur knows that moment well. It has made something of a career of capturing that fleeting moment and forcing it to endure, taking the layered bursts of chaos that usually hit at a song's bridge and employing them as the foundation of its sound.
It's something guitarist Mike Runsvold attributes to the band's democratic writing process.
But where it comes from may be less important than where it's taking Le Fleur. After years as pillars of Boise's indie scene, the band has been selected to take part in the upcoming all-Boise-band showcase at SXSW music festival in March, alongside Built to Spill, Youth Lagoon, Finn Riggins, The Bret Netson Band and Hillfolk Noir.
But for now, the band is appearing in the latest episode of Scenes From a Scene, Boise Weekly's continuing video series on local music happenings. It can be seen below.
