Saturday's Main Stage showcase at Treefort Music Fest may have been bathed in sunshine, but it started out dark with moody, atmospheric bands from all over the West.

First up was the return of Boise's In the Shadow of the Mountain, which proved that even after a two-year hiatus, members still know how to pound the bejeezus out of a complex rhythm beneath an echoed guitar line.

Following them was San Francisco's calculus-rock power trio in chief, Tartufi, which blasted the audience with waves of noise and reverb layered on reverb layered on reverb.

After Tartufi them came Denver-based Snake Rattle Rattle Snake, which rocked a Siouxsie and the Banshees-esque set of dark, New Wave-y pop.

The singer, Hayley Helmericks, was sporting an Atomic Mama tank top. The audience was sporting a giant grin.
