This weekend, the Century Link Arena hosted the Anime Oasis Double One convention. Attendees showed off their anime, manga, comic book and video game costumes, along with their cosplay battle skills.
The first cosplay (short for costume play) event of the four-day festival was a costume competition, featuring 44 contestants representing characters from Star Wars to Sailor Moon to Domo. The event got off to a late start because of the unexpected increase in participants from last year, when only 19 people competed.
Participants were each given a maximum of five minutes to perform a skit. While many of these skits were brief walk-ons, some participants played out scenes, sang or lip-synched and danced.
On May 27, the cosplay events ended with a cosplay battle, in which teams of two were paired up to battle against one another in full costume. One member from each team rolled the role-playing dice while the other took part in the battle action. The teams that won best two out of three continued on, while those defeated took their seats.
In the audience, fellow cosplayers, parents, children, grandparents and friends cheered on the battle participants as they fought their way to the end of the convention.
