Need Something To Do Tuesday?

Posted By on Tue, Jun 5, 2012 at 6:00 AM

Awkward, gangly school photos can be pretty embarrassing. Walking out of the bathroom with toilet paper stuck to your shoe may make you blush. But the creme de la creme of mortification is a bad book jacket cover.

Dozens of authors make the mistake every year—with awful, beyond-cheesy portraits gracing their book jackets. If you'd like to give your stories some visual pizazz without going the way of the hilariously bad pensive photo, head to the Library! at Collister tonight. From 6-7 p.m. you can partake in the library's book-making program. According to the library's website, "This program focuses on fashioning covers to bind your unique narrative."

And, yes, if you hit it big in the literary world, the odds of you fashioning your own cover probably aren't very good. Unless you're a stellar wordsmith and a super-awesome illustrator a la Maurice Sendak. In the meantime, why not give your family and friends a copy of your story that's not only engaging to read, but fun to look at as well? Materials for crafting your cover will be provided, and the fun takes place in the library's Sycamore Room.
