It's grand opening time for the recently re-opened Burger Time (formerly Patty's Burger Time), located at 1273 S. Orchard St. The festivities are slated for Saturday, June 16, with live music provided by Dream Benders and dollar medium drinks and corn dogs. The music will start around 6:30 p.m. and will last for roughly two hours.
Burger Time officially opened its drive-thru and walk-up windows for business on Friday, June 1. The new owners, Karen Rhom and Rennie Cloniger, took over the business together in May.
"I would not have got into this venture by myself," said Rhom. "I would have been in panic mode."
Rhom and Cloniger have made some changes to the popular burger joint, but many of the attractions that kept previous customers coming back for more will still be offered, such as classic '50s and '60s music and the classic car lineup on Saturdays for Hot Rod night. The menu will see a few tweaks, as will pricing and some of the products used to create menu items.
The hamburger patties are no longer prepared on-site but instead arrive pre-formed for what Rhom called sanitary purposes.
"We ate a lot of hamburgers trying to find what we wanted and this is what we found," said Rhom.
A large variety of milkshake flavors are on the menu, ranging from the classics—vanilla, chocolate and strawberry—to grasshoppers (peppermint syrup and Oreo cookies) and watermelon, with the dairy products coming from Dairygold.
"We upped the fat ingredients in our ice cream because we wanted a richer ice cream more like the old-fashioned ones," said Rhom. "We're trying to make everything as high quality as we can and still keep the prices down as much as possible."
The hours for Burger Time are 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday.
