Scenes From a Scene #049—Mozam

Posted By on Sun, Jul 1, 2012 at 10:20 AM

A two-man electronica act might sound limited on paper. But Trevor Kamplain and Christopher Smith—aka Mozam—buck that stereotype.

Inspired by world music, the duo blends African pop, Indian drums, even Mark Morrison's "Return of the Mack," into dance jams.

"You couldn't get your hands on certain pieces of work 50 years ago the way you can now," Kamplain explained.

Mozam's process is often complex, requiring multiple layers of sound. But the pair dishes out its own brand of experimental electro with ease, asking only that you shake it.

Youth Lagoon and Teens will join Mozam at Reef on Tuesday, July 3, for the next Radio Boise Tuesday series, which is an 18-and-older event.

Mozam, which describes itself as a "psychedelic coterie," played until 3 a.m. at this year's Ranch Fest. You can check it out below in the latest installment of Boise Weekly's ongoing Scenes from a Scene series.
