Like Accordion Shenanigans? Get Thee to a Red Room

The Red Room's Atypical Tuesday series has made its way by looking deep into the eyes of the weird and never flinching. Tonight, it's going to go a step or two deeper with a special performance from Duckmandu.

An alum of the Monsters of Accordion Tour and a session musician for Mr. Bungle, Mr. Du largely made his name with the album Fresh Duck for Rotting Accordionists, which covered the entire first album from punk rock pioneers Dead Kennedys, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables. His imitation of Jello Biafra's vocal style is almost eery, and the songs transfer far better to unaccompanied accordion than one would imagine.

But the man has also taken on classic rock tracks, as well as straight-up classical, both on his album Shut the Duck Up and Play Your Accordion, and through his involvement with the Punk Rock Orchestra, which does full orchestral arrangements of punk rock classics, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle-style.

If the video of Duckmandu playing AC/DC with his head on fire below is any indicator, tonight guarantees one of the more atypical Atypical Tuesdays at Red Room.

The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and costs $3. Adventure Galley, Howth and Storie Grubb and the Holy Wars are also on the bill.
