City Announces $60,000 in Arts Grants

To recognize the importance of the arts in Boise, Mayor Dave Bieter announced this morning a total of $60,000 in grants for local arts organizations.

Boise Contemporary Theater, Boise Philharmonic and the Basque Museum and Cultural Center were each awarded $10,000 in Arts and History Economic Development Grants in recognition of their impact on the area's economy and culture.

In addition, the city announced that Idaho Shakespeare Festival will join Trey McIntyre Project in serving as Boise's cultural envoys.

Both organizations will take part in the city's Economic Development Cultural Ambassador program, and each will receive $15,000. Since 2010, TMP has served in that role alone, but this year represents the first year in which the program will have two ambassadors.

All five organizations have agreed to use a portion of their grant funds for Boise 150 projects, the citywide celebration of Boise's 150th anniversary.
