Veterans Day is one of those rare autumnal holidays not weighed down with excessive commercialization—there's no last-minute rush to find gifts or a costume—likely because it's a somber day that honors those who have served in the military.

Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have killed or maimed thousands of American troops, and thousands more bear wounds invisible to the naked eye. And lest we forget, there are still veterans among us from campaigns in Europe, the Pacific, Korea and Vietnam.

The time-honored ways of observing Veterans Day are to attend parades, visit with friends and family who have served, and watch war movies. This year, add to that list the Warhawk Air Museum's 11th annual pancake breakfast.

Today from 8 a.m. to noon, you can enjoy pancakes, sausage, eggs and other traditional American breakfast fare while celebrating the service of America's veterans. The breakfast costs $6 for adults and $3 for seniors, military and kids. The Warhawk Air Museum is located at 201 Municipal Drive in Nampa.
