Attention runners: You have five days left to sign up for the Freezeout Challenge.
The 12K loop race begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Gem County Fairgrounds in Emmett and leads runners up Freezeout Hill—not a big surprise there. There is a shorter version (3.7 miles), which skips the hill, but considering Saturday's forecasted high is just 27 degrees, it's doubtful anyone will be called a wimp for skipping the hill-climbing portion.
You can register for the race until just before start time, or you can skip the hassle by registering online here. The cost to run is $38 for the 12K course. While early registration has closed for the longer course, you can still take advantage of the discounted early registration cost of $23 for the four-mile race until Wednesday, Jan. 16. After that date, the cost increases to $33.
Packet pickup will take place just prior to the start of the race and awards for top male and female racer will be handed out at the end of the event. No word on if there will be a special prize for avoiding frostbite.
